A Letter from Ann to Aunt Cia (1963)
A Letter from Ann to Aunt Cia (1963)
My uncle Horst Pillau sent me an old letter from Anne Böhm to Aunt Cia, dated 24 July 1963.
Anne Böhm (born Daw) was 27 years old, mother of two young boys, living with her husband Dr. Peter Böhm (38) at Bianca Böhm's apartment in Vienna. Bianca (61) was my grandmother and I was staying with her in Vienna for the school year of 1963. I was 14, and I was at school when I heard that John Kennedy was assassinated. Bianca’s older sister Cia Pillau (65) lived in Berlin and had two boys, Helmut (26) and Horst (31)]. Cia's husband Kurt was executed in Berlin in 1946.

Dear Cia!
I am so sad that I never get to see you all, I miss you so much it’s destroying me.
I wanted to visit you on my return trip from London but I didn’t dare to make the detour [to Berlin] because I was already gone too long.
Our kids [Georg, 1.5 and Nikolaus, 3] are very tan and so lively and happy. We go swimming almost every day, anyway it’s the only possible activity in this city [Vienna].
Friday we’re off to Weyer, [Austria], we're already very excited and praying for nice weather!
Lots of Love and lots of kisses
to all of you, Anne

Nice letter from Anne. I loved her very much and miss her.
