The Birth of Albert

Erna Böhm married Karl Kordesch on June 22, 1946

"I was heavily pregnant - the doctors had miscalculated and set the predicted due date too early. Everyone was waiting for the baby in Vienna, where at that time it was very hot. Since the baby still hadn’t arrived, Mami Omi, Karl and Hanni [age 2] traveled to Hardegg [three or four hours by train/bus].  


"Tante Nora [who was a nurse] stayed with me in Vienna. I remember exactly that on the night before we cooked pears [to make compote].  Then a thunderstorm came and it really cooled the air.  In the morning we had to take an ambulance to the hospital. As soon as the news reached Hardegg, Onkel Dolfi brought Karl to Vienna on his motorcycle [it had a sidecar].  Albert was born August 15, 1949 in Vienna.  [Written by Erna, 2002].

Erna studied Chemistry at the University of Vienna 1941 - 1943. 
Erna, Karl and Dolfi Marko were friends.

The family would often take summer holidays outside the city of Vienna at  Hardegg, Austria.
