Bianca's Life in Photos

Bianca, or "Mami-omi" as we called her, was the boss.  What she said was the law. Nobody ever dared to contradict or disobey.  For most of her 97 years she ruled over her elegant central Vienna third floor apartment with high ceilings, overlooking the Wien river, the Zollamt, and the Radetzkystrasse.  She had coal fired heating stoves in every room.  Early morning she would walk to the central market above the smoky locomotives to buy fresh baked kaisersemmeln and salzstangen, vegetables, sausages and dark rye bread.  The market is a shopping mall now, and the steam locomotives were replaced by electric subways: U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and Stadtbahn.  Her apartment building was destroyed by American air raid bombs in 1943 but it was rebuilt and is still occupied by her grandson Georg Böhm and his 2 kids Milla and Oleg.
